Hermano - I visit Fuengirola every year for a week. Over the years have found a few places but the favourite is bar La Paz Garrido for fresh seafood and often not an English voice to be heard.

Grateful if you could divulge the names of the places you visited?

The Berenjenas con miel look incredible. Are they simply coated in flour, deep fried and drizzled in that dark spanish honey (the name of which escapes me)?

Would like to try this at home. What would be our closest alternative? Dark treacle or molasses I guess?

Does it ever occur to you that by constantly going to the newest openings in London yet going to old established and usually reccomended places when abroad somewhat skews your comparisons? In that regard is it perhaps also worth noting that the places you do like in London are mostly long established? If your really interested in the quality of the food on your plate rather than the latest name to boost your hits, why not go to more of the established places in London?

I have a place just along the coast and would love to try somewhere around Fuengirola but have had some hit & miss experiences when choosing "blind" (e.g. frozen calamari!!). Would you be prepared to share the names of these places as they sound like exactly what I'm looking for - especially the great clams/mussels. If you do - many thanks.

Man, I love the Costa.

Used to stay in Fuengirola but, more recently, in Estepona. Always good eats and - as you say, no mucking about with the food. Fry the fish; put it on a plate - 'tis enough for me.
